Scouts rode all the way around Lake Macquarie, a distance of 108km. Well done Scouts! Above: Photos from Lap The Lake 2009 Scrub Bash Cardiff’s Scrub Bash Rally has the Scouts racing and navigating through the bush with large metal Billy Carts. The Carts are powered by at least 4 Scouts-horsepower that push one of their teammates through the challenging courses, until it is the next Scout’s turn to drive. Again, mud is usually driven through, not around. Above: Photos / Below: Movies from Scrub Bash Caving - Timor Caves 2009 90 Scouts from Lake Macquarie District were given a taste of caving at Timor Caves in the Upper Hunter. Scouts were challenged with tight squeezes and crawl-throughs in six different caves. Most vowed to continue caving when they reach Venturers. It is also one of the few cave sites in Lake Macquarie with stalactites and stalagmites. These Caves allowed for much practice with a chance to chimney to the top entrance and a few crawlthroughs, before a candlelit Going Up Ceremony for Daniel, Sam and Dodds'y. This was a great event with hundreds of Scouts from all over the Hunter and Central Coast getting together for a ‘hot’ but great week of fun and friendship. Held at Glenrock Scout Camp. The Camp involves a lot of teamwork, mud and a big slice of fun. Above: Photos / Below: Movie from Scout Ironman Camp Cobark Cardiff Scouts have a shack-cabin on the Barrington River, where we usually visit for weeks at a time in the school holidays. Rope bridges and swings are placed across the river. Great food is cooked by all in our old wood-fired camp oven. Great night games are played, such as camouflage, spot light and whistle. These Camps are usually the favourite of all the Scouts. Above: Photos / Below: Movies from Camp Cobark Wollemi National Park Hikes These are hard but rewarding hikes. With all the training in navigation and hiking skills under their belt, Cardiff Scouts love adventure and this is very adventurous. With huge gorges on either side of the Colo River, large caves are perfect to sleep in. Our Scouts are good hikers.
